The community of Co Tyrone is grieving the loss of three family members, including a woman described as “one of the most virtuous women of our generation”. Julia McSorley, 75, died in a road collision along with her niece and nephew while returning from a family member’s funeral in Corby, England. Mourners gathered at St Eugene’s Church in Glenock for Mrs McSorley’s funeral, where her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were in attendance. A representative of President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins also attended the service. Fr Roland Colhoun paid tribute to Mrs McSorley, describing her as a “dynamic” and “selfless” woman who battled cancer and buried many family members, yet never entertained bitterness. Her daughter Julie gave an emotional reading, and her granddaughter Tara led a prayer for the faithful. The funeral ended with Mrs McSorley’s burial at the cemetery adjoining the church alongside the remains of her infant son Jordan. The funeral for Dan and Christine McKane, who also passed away in the collision, will be held in The Church of The Immaculate Conception in Strabane on Monday.
