The journalist and former editor-in-chief Joris van den Berg died on Saturday at the age of 92. His family told this to the ‘ANP’ on Tuesday. Van den Berg died in the Sarphatihuis in Amsterdam, where he had lived for a long time. He made a name for himself as the editor-in-chief of the VARA guide.
Joris worked in Amsterdam for the Associated Press in the 1950s and was deputy editor of Vrij Nederland for several years in the 1960s. He then moved to Hilversum, where he started working for VARA.
At the socialist broadcaster, Joris worked as an editor for programs by Mies Bouwman, such as Mies-en-Scèneand the satirical program That’s just how it happensr. He was also associated with the radio program in the 1970s Looking forward to tomorrow.
In the late 1970s, Joris started working for the VARA guide, and was also the editor-in-chief. The journalist also wrote several books. His family remember the journalist on the funeral card as ‘a sweet, idiosyncratic man with a sharp mind’.
