Remembering Jean-Louis Murat: A Tribute to the Unique Voice of French Music

French singer Jean-Louis Murat died on Thursday, at the age of 71, at his home in Auvergne, learned 20 Minutes with his record company Cinq7. Considered a “text” singer with his often melancholic and poetic songs, he recorded around thirty albums throughout his career. His groove and his unique haunting voice, as well as his independence tinged with provocation, have made him a special artist in the French musical world.

The singer-songwriter had found success with his third album Cheyenne Autumn in 1989, which contained the title If I should miss you. His fourth album raincoat, released in 1991, had also seduced the public, with in particular the titles Run tell weak men or New feeling. But the French will especially remember his duet with Mylène Farmer, Regrets, released in 1991. Since then, the singer had not known such success, but had continued to record discs regularly and to make concerts in small rooms in France.
