Remembering Ismail Yassin: Iconic Comedian of Egyptian Cinema

The Seventh Day publishes a cartoon by the artist Ahmed Qaoud, on the anniversary of the death of the great artist, Ismail Yassin.

Today marks the 51st anniversary of the death of one of the icons of comedy in Egyptian cinema, the late artist Ismail Yassin, who passed away from our world on May 24, 1972, after a busy artistic career for more than 30 years.

Ismail Yassin was born in Suez in September 1915. His mother died while he was still in his early years. His father, who worked as a goldsmith on Abbas Street in the city of Suez, entered prison due to his bankruptcy and the accumulation of debts, after which he was forced to work to spend on himself.

At the beginning of the thirties, at the age of 18, he had a dream of working as a singer, so he traveled to Cairo, only to find that the Music Institute was closed, and about this period, Ismail Yassin said during an old meeting: “I used to wrap all day and not work, and I did not know anyone in Cairo, and in At the end of the day, I was sleeping in the Sayyidah Zainab mosque, and the imam of the mosque was slapping me with his leg and saying to me, “Get up” until they began to preserve my appearance because my clothes were dirty and my beard was long.
