– He’s a complete esthetician, says Oddny Miljeteig (SV) about Hans-Carl Tveit.
Hans-Carl Tveit died on Sunday 26 March after a long illness.
Tveit was a central left-wing figure in Bergen politics for several decades, and has been both a city councilor and a municipal councillor. For the last eleven years, he was employed as an adviser at the University of Bergen.
Miljeteig was the leader of the education committee when Tveit was city councilor for education, in 2003–2007.
– We had a lot to do with each other, a trusting collaboration that did not fail, she tells BA.
– A thousand irons in the fire
Anders Skoglund, former group leader for the Liberals in the city council 2003-07, tells of an intense and committed guy with a thousand irons in the fire.
Knowledgeable, future-oriented and concerned with details in everything, are keywords he comes up with. And not least: a city councilor who was keen to be present for children and young people.
– I remember well that his city council office was decorated with things from children in the Bergen school, everything from kindergartens to secondary schools, says Skoglund.
Tveit was known for working hard.
– He worked almost around the clock, he almost lived at the town hall. You could meet him there at almost any time of the day. He was very keen to do a thorough and good job. He was an incredible guy, almost as much a phenomenon as a person, says Skoglund.
– Deep grooves
– Thank you for everything you have done, writes Per-Arne Hvidsten Larsen (V), city councilor for finance, industry and property in Bergen municipality, in a Facebook post in memory of Tveit.
– As a school councilor and active politician for several decades, he has really left his mark on Bergen politics, says Erlend Horn, group leader and central board member of Venstre.
Horn remembers an inclusive politician who was always good at talking to new and young members, and who talked about life in Bergen politics. He himself joined the party when Tveit was a city councillor.
– It is sad that he has passed away. He meant a lot to Venstre and Bergen. I know that the Liberal Party nationally and locally will honor him at the funeral. It is well deserved, he adds.
