Grietje Post from Werkendam died on Monday at the age of 85 after a short illness. For years she was a viewing figure gun in the program Man bijt hond of the Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO). Even when the program made a restart at SBS6 in 2019, Grietje was asked for her own letters section. Viewers embraced her.
As a great fan of the Royal Family, Grietje first appeared in Man bijt hond in 2012. In an episode about Queen’s Day, she traditionally hoisted the flag and ate a tompouce.
“Her amiable character, her witty remarks and her simple lifestyle made her stand out among all the special people we encountered in Man bijt hond”, writes Christiaan Drent who worked with her for years for the program.
Hello Workers
She became known, among other things, with the slogan: “Hallo Werkendammers”. She almost never left Werkendam. That is why she called all fellow human beings Werkendammers. In the years that followed, she was taken for reports from her village to places she had never been.
“Her special and simple view of the world made viewers quickly embrace her,” writes Drent.
The own letters section on the viewing tube was a dream come true for the Werkendamse. “I’m good at that, answering letters. Talking to people,” Grietje said at the time in an interview with Omroep Brabant.
The viewing figure gun was ill for a short time and died on Monday morning at the age of 85.
