The distinguished Lebanese artist, Elie Choueiri, died on Wednesday evening, at the age of 84, according to the Lebanese media.

Elie Choueiri became famous as the “father of national anthems” in Lebanon. Since his artistic beginnings, Choueiri translated his love for his country into songs, including “I write your name, my country,” which he composed and composed in 1973, along with “Saf al-Askar,” “O People of the Earth,” and the song “Tala.” And Tamar Ya Dar” sung by Sabah and “Ayam Al-Lulu” with the voice of Al-Shahrora and Samira Tawfiq.

Choueiri participated with the Rahbani brothers in more than 25 works, and he was assigned the role of “Fadlo” in the play “The Seller of Rings” alongside Mrs. Fairouz in 1964, and in the film tape signed by director Youssef Chahine the following year.

Elie Choueiri was born in Beirut on December 27, 1939, in the golden age of art, where he lived with Muhammad Abd al-Wahhab, Umm Kulthum, Riyad al-Sunbati, Abd al-Halim Hafez, Karim Mahmoud, Muhammad Abd al-Muttalib and other art giants who drew the map of the Arabic song.

His real breakthrough took place in the world of art, specifically in the corridors of Kuwaiti radio in 1960, when a friend invited him to Kuwait when he was twenty years old. Coincidence brought him together with the late Kuwaiti composer Awad Al Dokhi, who encouraged him to learn to play the oud with a colleague of his named Morsi Al Hariri, an Egyptian composer. blind.

Elie stayed in Kuwait for more than a year, during which he performed some small concerts and got to know Gulf music and learn its rhythms.

In the middle of 1962, the Lebanese band “Al-Anwar” arrived in Kuwait as part of an artistic tour it was carrying out. It consisted of several Lebanese singers, including Wadih Al-Safi, Suad Al-Hashem, Zaki Nassif and Tawfiq Al-Basha. With a letter from a friend in Kuwait asking a Lebanese musician named Joseph Shamaa who lives in Lebanon to support Elie’s talent.

Elie became a member of a choir that included Shamaa and Nicolas El Deek, and he was among the team accompanying a number of artists, including Fahd Ballan and Nozha Younes.

Among his theatrical works with Al-Rahbana are “The Person”, “Fakhr El-Din”, “The Night and the Lamp”, “Sah Al-Noum” and “Dawaleb Al-Hawa”.
