BRATISLAVA – Tragic news has hit Slovak sports. Doctor Jozef Mračna went to his last rest. Not only domestic, but also foreign athletes sought him out. As a doctor, he also participated in the World Championships and the Olympic Games. Many leave him touching words of farewell.
The very sad news affected not only the family, but also the athletes. To his last rest on Thursday, November 23, 2023, doc. MUDr. Jozef Mračna, PhD. at the age of 81.
Jozef Mračna was a native of Hlohovec, where he was born in 1942. After graduating in medicine, he was the doctor of the Inter Bratislava footballers on Pasienky in Bratislava for almost a quarter of a century. As a doctor of Czech-Slovak athletes, he worked at the European Championships in 1974 and the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976.
He also held the position of docent and head of oro-maxillofacial surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University and the Oncology Institute of St. Elizabeth in Bratislava. He was sought out not only by Slovak athletes, but also by foreign ones. He helped, for example, Ludvík Daněk, Albert Juantoren or Miklós Németh.
In addition, he was actively involved in sports. He was a runner and his personal record was 1:58.7 for 800m. He was a member of the Athletics department at the Guard since its inception in 1962. Jozef’s wife, Mária “Faji” Mračnová, was even a two-time Olympian.
Many express their respect and gratitude to him through social networks. “He was an important expert in dentistry. For our unit in the seventies and eighties, he built a rehabilitation center with an office, a regeneration line, and a massage room at our ŠVŠT stadium, Mladá garda. The benefit of Dr. J. Mračna’s personal care for our athletes left indelible traces in the history of our department. Thank you and we will remember you, Jožko,” Viliam Lendel writes words of respect for Atletika na Garde.
“The legend of Inter and the doctor who helped not only me but also many athletes have passed away! The memories and your kind heart to help will always remain in our hearts,” Dušan said touchingly.
His acquaintances, friends and family said goodbye to him for the last time on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the crematorium in Bratislava.
