Remembering Cormac McCarthy: A Tribute to the Legendary American Writer

On June 13, the prominent American writer Cormac McCarthy passed away, several foreign media reports referring to the author’s publisher. The writer would have turned 90 this summer.

McCarthy received great recognition for his novel “The Road” published in 2006 – a post-apocalyptic story about a father and son’s survival and journey after the end of the world. For this, McCarthy received the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. The novel has also been translated into Latvian; It was filmed in 2009 (film director – John Hillcoat).

In 2005, McCarthy published the novel “No Country for Old Men”, which gained world fame after the 2007 film of the same name by the Coen brothers. This adaptation of McCarthy’s novel was awarded four Oscars.

One of the main, canonical works of McCarthy’s work is the novel “Blood Meridian” (1985), which critics tend to describe as both a Western and an anti-Western.

During his lifetime, McCarthy published 12 novels, two plays and three collections of short prose. Due to his unique writing style, he is often called one of the most prominent American writers of today.

McCarthy died of natural causes at his home, the writer’s son John McCarthy confirmed.

Cormac McCarthy, maybe the greatest American novelist of my time, has passed away at 89. He was full of years and created a fine body of work, but I still mourn his passing.
