Remembering Claude Fouquet: A Life Rooted in the Village

On Wednesday September 6, it was in the village church that family and friends gathered to accompany Claude Fouquet to his final resting place.

Like a return to the roots for this child of the country originally from Missègre through her mother’s side. Claudette for the Misségrois, née Courtade, left in her 80th year to join her loved ones dear to her heart.

Born in Casablanca, Claude spent her young years between Paris and Missègre where she spent her vacations in the company of her grandparents, sharing rural life by going to tend the flock of sheep with her friend Odette, embroidery work and snacks in the basket. Happy days which forged his attachment to the village. Passionate about literature and history, Claude became a teacher in Toulon, her new home. From her union with a young Norman Joël Fouquet, Vincent was born. Three grandchildren subsequently came to fill this available and invested grandmother.

Returning annually to the family home for the school holidays, she has forged and nourished bonds of friendship with the villagers who will keep in their hearts this affable woman with a “long career in her image: controlled, where only common sense, “Love and wisdom had their place.”

All our condolences to Joël, Vincent and Daisy, Léonie, Charline and Noa.
