Remembering Arlette Baumann: A Life of Service and Community Engagement in Sarralbe

Mme Arlette Baumann, née Hitz, died in Sarreguemines on Wednesday May 3, at the age of 78. Born on 1is April 1945 in Nancy, she was the widow of Mr. Roger Baumann since June 3, 2020. Mother of a son, Steve, she had the joy of counting a granddaughter, Iris. She was a retired merchant.

After municipal studies in Rech, Arlette went to housekeeping school. She began a multifaceted professional career: she designed earthenware plates in Sarreguemines; worked in a tailoring company in Germany; was a nursing assistant in Saint-Avold then in Forbach where she worked with her husband, Roger.

Then she opened a haberdashery in Sarralbe and she began her last professional activity by taking over the management of the Café de l’Étoile in Sarralbe and then, in 1978, the Café de la Paix, known to everyone for twenty-two years as the ” Cafe Chez Arlette”. Upon her retirement, she served as a municipal councilor in Sarralbe. She had been elected continuously for more than two decades.

Committed to serving the community, Arlette has always enjoyed being in contact with people with an energy and communicative optimism.

Our condolences to the family.
