Remembering Antoine Multaqa: Distinguished Actor and Playwright Mourned by Lebanese Entertainment Industry

The Syndicate of Theater, Cinema, Radio and Television Actors in Lebanon mourned the distinguished actor and playwright Antoine Multaqa, who died yesterday, Wednesday, at the age of 91 years.

Antoine Multaqa was born on June 9, 1933, in the Lebanese town of Wadi Shahrour, to the artist Latifa Chamoun Multaqa, and they have one son (Zad).

Multaqa is considered one of the senior professors at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Lebanese University, and one of the giants of the golden age of art in Lebanon.

He appeared on stage for the first time in 1937 in the role of a young farmer. As for the first play that he directed and acted in, it was “The Zir” by Voltaire, in 1950, in his hometown of Wadi Shahrour.

His first theatrical work was with director Mounir Abu Debs in Shakespeare’s play “Macbeth.”

After that, he participated in many theatrical works, including: “The Bowl Was Lost,” “Simsim,” “The Chisel,” and others.

One of the most famous television roles that Multaqa played, and which is still firmly entrenched in Lebanese popular memory, is the character “The Judge” in the series “10 Obaid Zaghar”, in 1974.
