The Omicron BA.2.75 subvariant, dubbed ‘Centaurus’, has recently made people nervous. This is because the new wave due to BA.4 and BA.5 has not subsided. Experts fear the emergence of ‘Centaurus’ is prolonging the crisis period due to the new outbreak.
‘Centaurus’ was originally identified in India, but eventually spread to several countries including Indonesia.
There is no certainty regarding the dangers of the Centaurus subvariant, but this variant is believed to be more contagious than the previous one. The World Health Organization still includes the Omicron variant as a variant of concern 9VoC), so the emergence of ‘Centaurus’ still has to be watched out for.
