The sequel to Alan Wake is finally out after many years, and the Finnish studio Remedy can enjoy celebratory reviews and enthusiastic responses from fans. Developers praise cooperation with Epic Games, Sam Lake is already thinking about the next big game, and the company has published its financial results. It’s too early for numbers related to Alan Wake 2, according to the report itself, but it also tells us a little bit about other projects Remedy is working on, which CEO Tero Virtala has now detailed.
The developers are not abandoning the second Alan yet, as next year we will see two expansions, but even then they will not be short of entertainment. Remedy Entertainment currently has four and five titles in development – Control 2, Condor, a remake of the first and second Max Payne titles and a game codenamed Vanguard. Virtala briefly addressed each of these projects and, together with a brief description, shed light on how each of them is doing. Impatient fans, however, may be disappointed that neither of them is clearly around the corner.
The remakes of the first and second parts of the Max Payne series are moving forward, and with the clarification of the concept, style and scope of the game, the entire project can enter the production phase. The development is to be handled by a very well-organized team, and according to Virtala, they are already enthusiastic about the project, as well as its expected future success. Condor, a cooperative multiplayer game that is also a spin-off of the first Control, also came out of the conceptual phase. The developers should have gained valuable knowledge, thanks to which they are able to create a game that, ideally, players will be devoted to for many years. More distant is the title that we know under the name Vanguard, but overall we don’t know much about it. At the moment, the developers are working on defining the next stages of the concept together with the publishing partner. However, the verification of the concept should be completed by the end of this year.
Control 2, which was officially announced a year ago, is also at this stage – proof of concept. According to Remedy, the plans are ambitious and there is significant progress in the design and preparations of the game, but this phase will take several more quarters before the developers move on and expand the team. We will have to wait a while for some games, but it is good to know how the developers are doing and how they are progressing. Let’s hope that this will continue to be the case and that we could expect some news or samples from one of the upcoming projects in the foreseeable future. In the meantime, of course, you can recall our review of Alan Wake 2, or play it yourself.
