The United States Food and Drug Administration (Fda) has approved Veklury antiviral, the trade name of Remdesivir, for use in adult and pediatric patients 12 years and older for the treatment of forms of Covid-19 that require hospitalization. This was announced by the same agency that authorizes the use of drugs in the US.

Remdesivir is the first drug for Covid-19 to be approved by the FDA, despite the WHO having rejected its effectiveness, declaring that it has little or no effect on the survival of the sick.
The drug produced by the pharmaceutical company Gilead was designed against the Ebola virus, but was among the first drugs used “off label” for the treatment of infection caused by the new coronavirus and became even better known after it was used for the treatment of US President Donald Trump.

The results of the study conducted by the institution starting in May, had shown that patients treated with Remdesivir recovered after about 11 days, compared with 15 days for placebo-treated patients.
But as clarified by the European Commission through a spokesperson, “Remdemsivir has received conditional authorization on the European market. The authorization was given by the Commission following a positive recommendation from the European Medicines Agency. Since this is a conditional authorization, the colleagues of the Medicines Agency continue to follow the situation closely ”.
The European Commission itself announced in early October the signing of a agreement with the pharmaceutical manufacturer for 500,000 Remdesevir treatments against Covid-19, so that the 27 member states, the UK and ten other countries associated with the EU, will have the opportunity to purchase the product directly at the agreed price e without further negotiations.
