Remasters of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver announced at State of Play – screenshots and trailer already leaked

Two cult action series Legacy of Cain – Soul Reaver 1 and Soul Reaver 2 – will get remasters, according to a leak that happened before State of Play. A new collection called Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2 Refurbishedis being jointly developed by Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr, and will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on December 10, 2024.

These revisions allow players to re-immerse themselves in the conflict between Kain and the vampire ghost Raziel. Players will be able to choose between original graphics or updated visual effects.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver first released in 1999 on the original PlayStation and was later ported to the Sega Dreamcast and PC. Its sequel, Soul Reaver 2, was released in 2001 on PlayStation 2 and PC. Both games tell the story of Raziel, who seeks revenge on his old master Kain, the main character of the first game in the series, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.

The original games were developed by Crystal Dynamics, known for the Tomb Raider series, under the direction of Amy Hennig, who later worked on Uncharted.

Earlier this year, Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr have already released remasters of the first three Tomb Raider games. Studio owner Embracer Group announced that after acquiring Crystal Dynamics and other Square Enix studios, it sees “huge potential in remakes, remasters and spin-offs” for its franchises, the reveal possible future revisions of classic games.
