A look at the canton’s online job portal is surprising: The Directorate for Health, Social Affairs and Integration (GSI) is looking for a person to take over the management of the vaccination campaign with immediate effect. That sounds strange, after all, the start date for the first Covid vaccinations in Bern is set for January 11th. Isn’t there anyone who wants to take responsibility for the vaccination campaign yet?
This is not the case, says Gundekar Giebel, head of communications at the cantonal GSI directorate. The vaccination campaign has so far been led by Frank Neff, member of the Bern Corona special staff. But this is actually employed as a hospital specialist on the island. Therefore, according to Giebel, it was clear from the start that Neff would not take over management in the long term.
