Mexico City. The remains of two more workers, of the 10 miners who were trapped in the El Pinabete mine after the collapse on August 3, 2022, in Coahuila, have been identified, the federal government announced this Friday.
The remains of Margarito Rodríguez Palomares and José Luis Mireles Arguijo, aged 57 and 46 respectively, were recovered on 27 and 30 August respectively, authorities reported in a private meeting with the families. This brings the number of workers identified to six.
This action This occurs 106 days after the start of the second stage of the underground search and rescue efforts carried out in this coal mine by the Unified Command, made up of the Federal Electricity Commission, the National Civil Protection Coordination, the National Defense Secretariat and the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Coahuila.
167 members of the aforementioned departments are participating in the rescue efforts.
Last April, the federal government notified the families of the bereaved of the results of the identification of the biological evidence recovered between December 27, 2023, and January 16, 2024. The remains found belong to four miners: Hugo Tijerina Amaya, Jorge Luis Martínez Valdez, Jaime Montelongo Pérez, and José Rogelio Moreno Morales.
The findings came after more than three months of underground work coordinated by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC). The authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continue the search for the miners who have not yet been located.
