Jakarta –
Main Director of Perum Bulog Budi Waseso said there was still a rice import quota of 400 thousand tons. Currently, the assessment is continuing but has not yet received the right price for these imports.
One of them, Indonesia is not far from importing rice from Cambodia as much as 125,000 tons. According to Buwas, the price of rice in Cambodia is too high, because Bulog itself is bound by price provisions from the government to absorb rice, both domestically and abroad.
“Cambodia can send 120,000 to us but the problem is that the price is not included. We can’t take high prices. It’s getting here so expensive,” he said when met at the DPR RI Building, Wednesday (30/8/2023).
Even so, Buwas ensured that the remaining import quota of 400 thousand tons could be completed this November.
“God willing, before November the goods will already be there. But I don’t need to say which country,” he said.
For information, quoting from The Star, the Cambodian Ministry of Trade in a press release on Thursday (17 August) stated that Indonesia had agreed to buy 125,000 tons of milled rice from the kingdom.
This news release comes after a meeting in Phnom Penh between Cambodian Trade Minister Pan Sorasak and visiting Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Pahala Nugraha Mansury on Wednesday.
“As a result of the bilateral meeting, the Indonesian side agreed to buy 125,000 tons of milled rice from Cambodia, including 100,000 tons of white rice and 25,000 tons of premium aromatic rice,” said the release.
He added that the Indonesian Logistics Bureau (Bulog) would cooperate with Cambodia’s state-owned Green Trading Company for exports of white rice, while Indonesian food holding company ID FOOD would cooperate with members of the Cambodian Rice Federation for purchases of premium aromatic rice.
“For prices and other conditions, both parties will continue to negotiate in the near future,” he wrote.
