United States of America postpone trial ballistic missile intercontinental continent (ICBM), Minuteman III, in order to reduce the potential for nuclear war by Russia.
The Minuteman III ICBM missile is said to have a long-range nuclear warhead capability.
“In an effort to demonstrate that we have no intention of making a move that could lead to misunderstanding, the Department of Defense has ordered the postponement of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile test,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said. Reuters.
“Of course this is not an easy decision, but we want to show that we are very responsible for nuclear weapons,” he added.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously announced a nuclear weapons alert after the invasion of Ukraine.
“I ordered the defense minister and the chief of the general staff of the Russian armed forces to put the deterrence forces of the Russian army into a special combat mode,” Putin said.
“You see that Western countries are not only unfriendly to our country on the economic front – I mean sanctions are illegal,” he said in a televised address.
Russia is said to have the world’s largest arsenal of nuclear weapons and a number of ballistic missiles that form the backbone of deterrence forces.
US President Joe Biden responds to Putin’s decision to put a nuclear war alert.
He stated on Monday (28/2), the US was not afraid of the threat of Russia going to nuclear war in the world.
Biden was responding to a question from one of the reporters at a press conference at the White House, Washington, whether the American people were afraid of the possibility of nuclear war. He firmly answered “no”, quoted from Reuters.
