As for the SNCF, three major projects are taking shape: the relocation of the current TER station, the construction of the bus station of the multimodal interchange (PEM) and that of the Nice airport station.
Relocation of the current station
Nice Saint-Augustin station is being moved to the PEM site, 400 meters from its current location.
“We wanted to bring the TER in contact with the tram and buses, without waiting for 2027 or 2028”, emphasizes Dominique Lecluse. He is program director for national projects in the Arc Sud for SNCF Gares & Connexions. Because this station is intended to be dismantled, in favor of the Nice airport station, which will also accommodate TGVs. The new TER station will therefore be made of metal and wood, so that the elements are reused later.
The railway footbridge, which will link the station and the platforms, is under construction. It should be delivered between September and October, with the two platforms that will accommodate the regional trains.
From the TER station, travelers can reach the tram and buses via a forecourt. This work, as well as that of the station building, will be launched in June. The entry into service of the TER station is announced for June 2022.
Construction of the bus station
The work of the bus station will be carried out in two phases. A first set of 10 docks, with five others for storage and electric charging stations. Ten more will follow later, on the ground of the current market of national interest (MIN). The movement of the MIN to La Gaude is, for the moment, suspended since a new standoff is being played out between an association and the Metropolis. [lire Nice-Matin du jeudi 15 avril].
Commissioning of this first phase announced for spring 2023.
Construction of the Nice airport station
As part of the New Provence Côte d’Azur Line project (LNPCA), a station – called Nice airport – will be built within the PEM. The two 200-meter-long platforms, built for the temporary TER station, will make way for four 400-meter platforms. They will thus be able to accommodate TGVs.
The public utility survey will be launched in 2022, followed by the public utility declaration. The works should start in 2024. “On these big projects, these dates are rather horizons, because we can meet various hazards“, adds Dominique Lecluse.
Commissioning announced: 2027-2028.
