Relocation encourages the production of auto parts in more states

Mexico City. Even though the northern zone continues to be the leader in the production of auto parts in Mexico, with Coahuila, Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Tamaulipas and Sonora at the head, there are entities that had not been so linked to this sector and are now experiencing growth in said activity, revealed Armando Cortés, general director of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA).

The INA director indicated that Yucatán registered an annual increase of 117.69 percent in January; Zacatecas followed, with an increase of 31.50 percent; Durango, 18.79; San Luis Potosí, 18.26, and the state of Mexico, with 15.40 percent.

They are states that are not traditionally considered in the production of auto parts and show significant growth between 2023 and 2024. This indicates that the auto parts industry is diversifying and is generating development in entities where the production of these goods did not traditionally occur.Cortés asserted.

He added that a significant rebound is being seen in these states; “That is to say, if we put them in absolute proportion they still represent a small percentage, but the growth they are having is considerable.

“One of the important things about the relocation of production chains (nearshoring) is that there are opportunities for all states; Obviously, we start with entities that traditionally already have manufacturing operations, but we are already beginning to have greater benefits in other states; That is to say, we are going to see, along with the increase in production on a national scale, how states that traditionally did not have significant production begin to produce more auto parts gradually, but it is already a trend that is observed and will generate development for all of Mexico. “said the INA director.

They expect car sales to increase 6.6%

In a joint press conference, INA and the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) shared relevant information on the performance of the automotive sector in the first quarter of 2024.

Armando Cortés specified that the production of auto parts in Mexico exceeded 10 billion dollars in January 2024, and he expected this trend to continue throughout the year.

For his part, Guillermo Rosales, director of AMDA, estimated that vehicle sales will amount to one million 451 thousand units in 2024, an increase of 6.6 percent compared to 2023.

Making a qualitative assessment, I am seeing elements that could even bring us closer to one and a half million units, depending on whether the consumer spirit, purchasing power and competitiveness that we have had are maintained.

Regarding the regularization of illegal vehicles (which was extended until the closure of the current administration, on September 30), he noted that this measure has led to the entry of 2 million 100 thousand units, with the corresponding harmful effect of decreased sales. of vehicles in formal businesses in northern states of the country.

Rosales said he hopes that the next federal administration will end the car regularization policy chocolates.
