Religious Beliefs Pose Obstacle to Organ Donation in Ramiro Prialé Hospital

Currently, in the Ramiro Prialé de EsSalud hospital there are about 200 people who live dependent on hemodialysis, due to the chronic renal failure that affects them. Likewise, some 90 people are on the waiting list to receive a donation, but unfortunately they cannot.

Last Friday in La Merced, there was a puerperal Asháninka as a donor, but the relatives do not accept the possibility of donating due to their deep-rooted religious beliefs and issues, which prevent them from making a decision.

The doctor called on families to accept organ donation from brain-dead people, because although their brains do not work, there are organs that can be donated, such as kidneys, hearts, livers, and corneas.

Kidney transplantation is performed at the Ramiro Prialé de EsSalud hospital and most of the patients he accepted were direct relatives.

45% of transplants with living donors are only performed in EsSalud hospitals, the majority are from mothers who donate kidneys for their children.
