Religion: opening of the symposium of the International Catholic Conference of Scouting Africa – AGP

Libreville, December 13, 2023 (AGP) – The work of the symposium of the International Catholic Scout Conference (CICS) of Africa began this Wednesday, December 13, at the Palais des sports in Libreville, under the theme: “resocialization of youth African through scouting,” we noted.

It was after singing the African scouts’ anthem that the CICS Africa 2023 symposium was officially launched in Gabon, in which nearly 20 countries from the sub-region are participating.

The theme chosen this year highlights the importance of resocializing young people. A theme which allowed the seminarians to address the question of the reintegration of young people into African society in general.

“Young people can resocialize themselves by joining scouting. […] It is important that this movement exists to enlighten young people so that they integrate the standards that will allow them to be good citizens,” said CICS Africa President, Marcelin Henry Diene.

Thus, in order to emphasize the social reintegration of young people, for 3 days, other major themes will be addressed. They will revolve around spirituality, the environment and personal development.

“During the first day, we will talk about scout spirituality through themes such as ecumenism and interreligious dialogue. The second day, we will talk about topics related to the environment and health, where we will discuss duty towards others. (…) The third day, we will talk more about personal development. We will address themes related to rights and freedoms, to the reappearance of our values,” said Ange–Claude Nkoghe, general commissioner of the association of Catholic scouts and guides of Gabon.

Remember that scouting is a youth movement which aims to train young people by allowing them to develop physical, intellectual, moral and spiritual capacities.
