And that means balancing out guaranteed religious freedom with the given risks.”
Burger spoke of a discrepancy in the expectations that would be placed on him. There are requests to finally ensure that worship services can be celebrated publicly and in community again. Other voices are against hastily working towards an opening and thereby endangering risk groups.
“In a nutshell, you could say that there is a tension here between the freedom to practice religion guaranteed in the Basic Law and the responsibility of the state and the church to react appropriately to a threat that has now arisen from the corona virus,” said Burger.
