The next round of matches in the German Football League is full of excitement. While the New York Lions from Braunschweig are in a direct duel with the Dresden Monarchs for the playoffs, the Paderborn Dolphins and the Berlin Rebels are trying to avoid relegation. In the southern division, the Munich Cowboys will face the Straubing Spiders, who are both currently in a playoff spot and are therefore competing for a home game in the postseason.
PADERBORN DOLPHINS vs. BERLIN REBELS
Sunday, August 11, 3 p.m., Hermann-Löns-Stadion
The equation is simple: three become one. While a total of five teams are in the race for the playoffs in the northern division, the Paderborn Dolphins, Kiel Baltic Hurricanes and Berlin Rebels are fighting against the threat of relegation, or rather the upcoming relegation match against the northern champions of the GFL2, which would currently be the Rostock Griffins. All three threatened teams have only two wins to their name. Paderborn are still living off their two wins at the beginning of the season and have lost all of their last four games. The Rebels are currently in last place and are also living off a good start to the season. The capital city team’s losing streak has now reached five games. It is clear that the loser of this game will fall far behind the winner shortly before the end of the regular season, while the winner will take a big step towards staying in the league.
NEW YORKER LIONS BRAUNSCHWEIG vs. DRESDEN MONARCHS
Sunday, August 11, 4 p.m., Stadium at Salzgittersee, Salzgitter
The situation between the New York Lions from Braunschweig and the Dresden Monarchs is completely different. After a botched start to the season, the Lower Saxony team welcomes their guests with a winning streak of five games under their belt. The record champions definitely want to make the playoffs and would even have a chance of a home game in the knockout phase of the season if they beat the Monarchs, who are currently in second place. If the Saxons win, however, they will at least have gotten rid of the Braunschweig team in the battle for second place. High tension is guaranteed. Due to the start of the 2nd Bundesliga, the game will take place in Salzgitter.
MUNICH COWBOYS vs. STRAUBING SPIDERS
Saturday, August 10, 4 p.m., Dantestadion Munich
The snail race for the playoff spots in the southern division is still in full swing. The Straubing Spiders are currently in second place with a balanced record of four wins and four losses. By comparison: The Berlin Rebels in the north would currently miss the playoffs completely with the same record. It is all the more paradoxical that the Munich Cowboys are in fourth place in the south with a 3-5 record. But it’s no use, three teams have to qualify for the postseason behind the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns, who already bagged the southern championship last weekend. The winner of this game will of course improve their starting position, but after the Allgäu Comets celebrated another victory last week and thus got back into the race, they would not be guaranteed a place.
