Oldenburg – In a season where early relegation hopes have been all but fulfilled, the Oldenburg Knights now face the first of four “final rounds” to stay in the GFL2. If they want to experience a third season in the second highest German football league in 2025, the Knights (6 games / 0 wins / 8th place) will inevitably have to face the Bielefeld team this Saturday come (4pm, Marschwegstadion Bulldogs). (6/1/6.) end the negative run.
“It’s a very important game that we have to win,” says Holger Völling. “If we had lost, we would no longer be able to stay in the league,” affirms the sports director, looking at the table in which his team was a week ago due to a 7:38 loss with rivals the Düsseldorf Panther tournament (7 /6/2).
“But I’m very optimistic that we will beat Bielefeld,” said Völling and added: “The Bulldogs are a team on equal terms. They are actually in the same position as us as they have only won one game against Cottbus.
The Knights’ hope of not being relegated to the GFL2 in 2023 rests primarily on the fact that they will meet the Crayfish twice more: at home on August 31 and away on September 14. In between, on September 8th we go to the Lübeck Cougars (6/2/5th), who are still not safe from falling into one of the two relegation places, and who have to compete in Bielefeld still (August 24). The Bulldogs will also face the Primus Langenfeld Longhorns (6/6/1 – away on August 31) and the Hamburg Pioneers (7/5/3 – at home on September 7).
