Releases new album – VG

The pop group ABBA releases new music for the first time in almost 40 years.

During a large-scale live broadcast on Thursday night, the world-famous Swedish pop group ABBA announced that they will release new music. – It sounds just like it always has, says songwriter Benny Andersson.

Two singles are already out on Spotify. “I still have faith in you” and “Don’t shut me down”.

The last time ABBA released new music was in 1982, when the single “Under Attack” came out.

– We took a break in the spring of 1982 and now we have decided to end it. It is said that it is stupid to wait more than 40 years between albums, so we have recorded a sequel to “The Visitors”, the group states in a press release.

The album is named “Voyage” and has ten songs. The project to get ABBA back has been ongoing since they recorded the first two songs in 2018.

– When we had these two songs, it felt a little heavy, “shall we not do any more?” and we did a few more and it turned out well and since then we thought we would drive on and run an entire album, says Benny Andersson to SVT.

The live broadcast is broadcast from several world metropolises, including New York, London, Berlin and Rio de Janeiro, and not least ABBA’s hometown, Stockholm. (You can see the broadcast at the top of the article).

ABBA-TARER: Benny Andersson (74), Anni-Frid Lyngstad (75), Agnetha Fältskog (71) and Björn Ulvaeus (76) in the costumes that have been used to make the new concert.

In a press release, ABBA writes that “the inspiration to record music again comes from having helped create the strangest and most spectacular concert you could have dreamed of”

– We will be able to sit among the audience and watch our digital self perform our songs on a stage in a specially built arena in London next spring. Strange and wonderful!

They further write that they sail in unknown waters, and that with the help of their younger selves they will travel into the future.

– It is not easy to explain, but it has never been done before, either.

Digital concerts

It will not be the four-leaf clover itself that will be on stage and perform the new album, but holograms.

– When you come to the arena, you will have the four of us together with a fantastic band. And even if we are not there in person, we will still be there, Andersson says.

The concerts will take place on 27 May 2022, and will consist of 22 songs, and some of them will be taken from ABBA’s hit catalog.

BACK: ABBA when they won Eurovision with the song “Waterloo” in 1974.

The pop group is one of the best-selling music artists through the newspaper, and this year they broke a record with the album “ABBA Gold” as the longest-lived album on the British hit list, according to TV 2.

In 2010, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2015, the hit song “Dancing Queen” was inducted into the Grammy’s Hall of Fame.

ABBA was at its largest one of the world’s largest pop groups and has sold millions of albums. In recent times, their music has also reached a new and younger audience through, among other things, the “Mamma Mia” films.

The group made its big breakthrough after the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and is known for a number of hits, including: “SOS” (1975), “Dancing Queen” (1976), “Money, Money, Money” (1976), “Take A Chance On Me »(1978),« Chiquitita »(1979),« Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight »(1979).
