There have been claims that Chinese mobile phone maker Xiaomi is planning to make a foldable screen phone after filing a patent for a new “style” phone design, whose screen mechanism will fold externally.
Xiaomi submitted the patent document to the China Patent Office (CNIPA) in 2019.
It showcases the patented phone design, which features flexible screen technology that tilts outward so that the outline of the device becomes a cell phone on both sides of the screen when folded, and a tablet when stretched out.
From a design point of view, the patent is similar to the Huawei Mate Xs phone released in March 2020.
Xiaomi’s patent shows that on the back of the phone, four cameras are mounted vertically and have two holes called LED flash.
When it’s on the front, the patent doesn’t show the location of the camera in detail. And then on the top right is an area that shows a red line when the phone is folded.
Meanwhile, on the right side of the phone body there are two physical buttons to turn on the device (power) and the volume adjustment button.
A speaker device for charging, a SIM card slot, a microphone and a USB Type-C port are integrated into the bottom of the phone body.
Interestingly, at the bottom of the phone, Xiaomi offers a slot to place the stylus pen compiled by Tecroder.
However, this is limited to filing a patent and it is not certain if Xiaomi will actually carry out the design.
However, according to the patent it filed, Xiaomi was really serious about working on a cell phone with a folding screen design mechanism.
