He was released on bail of BGN 5,000, although at first instance he was sentenced to life imprisonment, together with his son. It was taken into account his state of health and the fact that he was cooperating and there was no danger of absconding. The decision sparked immediate protests.

Ivaylo Naydenov, the family’s lawyer, said that Plamen Vladimirov’s health condition has been commented on before and that it was like that when he was following his daughter-in-law and when he was helping his son in committing the crime. “The guilt of Plamen Vladimirov is even greater than the guilt of Orlin Vladimirov,” he declared.
Georgiev shared that there were no signs of Orlin’s behavior before he committed the crime. Evgenia’s child is traumatized, Evgenia’s brother is taking care of him, he shared. Georgiev expressed fears that the life sentence could be reduced to 20 years, and the prisoner would be released on the 10th year. He said it would be a nightmare for the child if the father then sought custody.
Lawyer Naydenov said that the measures for procedural coercion should be in an open court session. He recalled the details of the crime committed. Naydenov said that medical examiners believe that suffocation may have occurred as a result of Evgenia being wrapped in duct tape and that this was the cause of death. He expressed hope that the second instance will also be convinced of Plamen Vladimirov’s complicity in the murder.
Georgiev asked why the meeting was closed. “Doubts remain that there is something wrong or a strong influence of State Security, since the murderer father was an employee there. Are they still saving the remnants of the DS in the current government,” he said.
