Release of Hostages: Hamas frees two women in the Gaza Strip after Egyptian efforts

Two women who were hostages of Hamas in the Gaza Strip arrived at the Rafah crossing on Monday evening, according to the Egyptian Middle East News Agency.

The Egyptian News Agency said, “Two women who were detained in Gaza arrived at the Rafah crossing after the success of Egyptian efforts to release them.”

The agency added that Egyptian efforts succeeded in releasing two women from the Gaza Strip

For its part, Hamas confirmed that it had released two women it had been holding in the Gaza Strip since its attack on Israel on October 7.

The spokesman for the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, Abu Ubaida, said in a statement, “We, through Egyptian-Qatari mediation, released the two detainees, Nurit Yitzhak and Yochved Lifshitz (…) for compelling humanitarian and satisfactory reasons.”

Last week, the Israeli army confirmed that the number of hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip had reached 199 people.

For its part, the leadership of the Hamas movement said that “the number of prisoners is between 200 and 250, and there are 200 prisoners in the hands of Al-Qassam,” pointing out that 22 prisoners have lost their lives due to Israeli bombing so far.
