Family and friends of the young Cuban George Castellanos, who died last Saturday, April 6 after a shooting in a bar in Doralwent to the Graceland funeral home this Thursday to say their last goodbye.
According to the media Telemundo 51hundreds of people would have arrived throughout the day to say goodbye to the young father, who was working as a security guard at the Martini Bar the night of the incident.
Castellanos, 23 years old, was remembered by those present as one of the most honest and hardworking people they knew.
“George was a beautiful soul, always with a smile on his face, a noble and wonderful young man,” Claudia Morales, aunt of the deceased young man, declared before cameras.
Born to a Cuban father and a Nicaraguan mother, identified as Jorge Castellanos and Jeannine Castellanos, the young man was studying at Florida International University (FIU) and was one month away from graduating.
His parents said they were devastated by the news, with his father having to be taken to hospital due to the pain he was feeling. The aforementioned media shared images of the ambulance outside the funeral home, while several of those present watched with concern.
“It was there where my world collapsed and I still have it collapsed. There is no way to get up,” his father said in interviews prior to Telemundo 51.
The police report indicates that on Saturday night There was an incident in which two people started fighting inside the bar. One of them would have pulled out a firearm and started shooting, hitting Castellanos after he approached to try to stop him.
Initially, the reasons why the discussion began were unknown, but a former colleague of the deceased, identified as Carlos Guevara, shared more details of what happened.
He said that, apparently, one of the subjects had taken a chair from one of the nearby tables, which was being used by another person’s companion, who started the altercation in an attempt to get it back.
The shooter, who was shot dead shortly after by a pair of nearby police officers, was later identified as 37-year-old Jamal Wayne Wood.
The Doral police chief confirmed that the young Cuban was not armed at the time of the shooting. Likewise, he indicated that everything indicated that security checks had not been carried out at the entrance of the bar, so Jamal Wayne Wood was able to introduce a gun.
