Ryan Murphy, producer of the Netflix series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”, says his team contacted relatives of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims prior to the release of the series. However, they would not respond, Murphy told the Hollywood Reporter.
With this Murphy contradicts the previous reports of the relatives of the victims. They claim that they have not been contacted for the release of the series. “In the three years we’ve been working on the show, we’ve been trying to reach about 20 casualties,” Murphy said. “We tried to talk to family and friends so we could get input, but no one answered us.” Murphy adds that he relied on his team of researchers to investigate serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, also known as The Milwaukee Cannibal.
In addition to the series, Netflix has put online a three-part documentary series in which friends of Dahmer’s victims share their stories. In Conversations With a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, Michael Ross and Jeff Connor recall their meeting with Dahmer and remember their murdered friends.
The Dahmer series tells the life of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who was himself murdered in 1994 by a cellmate. He killed at least seventeen men and boys, which he collected mainly in gay bars. He tortured them, including by injecting hydrochloric acid into their bodies, had sex with their bodies after their death, and ate body parts. Police at the time received a lot of criticism for failing to act when neighbors and even a victim who managed to escape stepped forward but were not believed.
