After the tragedy with Macedonian tourists on the Struma highway, survivors and relatives of the dead demanded that the Pernik District Court investigate the causes of the crash in parallel. Relatives of the victims are looking for more information about gold and jewelry for thousands of euros left among the rubble.
Everything on the topic:
The Struma bus tragedy 142
–Nearly two months after the brutal tragedy on the Struma highway, some of the survivors are returning to Bulgaria.
Kyamuran’s brother is living a second life. He has already recovered physically, but not mentally. Since returning home, he has stopped talking, BNT reported.
It’s not good mentally. He’s been with me for two months. I keep it. We have others who aren’t well mentally. They can’t talk. They just say the same thing – “I don’t know”, “I don’t know”. “There is no bigger catastrophe in the world,” Kamyuran Payazitovski told national television.
Black families are still waiting for the saved belongings of their loved ones. They were returned by the Bulgarian investigation in Northern Macedonia, but the identification procedure has not yet begun.
“My daughter-in-law, I have evidence that she had jewelry for 7,000 euros during the trip. The gold is not burning. It may have been a ball. Our authorities say we have gold, or readable suitcases, or money,” added Kamyuran Payazitovski.
Survivors and relatives of the dead also insist on a parallel investigation into the causes of the tragedy, other than the criminal proceedings initiated by the prosecutor’s office. The case for securing the evidence was filed before the district court in Pernik.
It is very easy to say the driver died. Nothing to anyone. This is only for us, someone to save, the driver is to blame for that, said Kamyuran Payazitovski.
In the case in Pernik, experts will again examine the road surface, turns, markings and what was the maintenance.
RIA very quickly and on time began to repair things that were destroyed by the crash, but also began to change some details of the road that do not have defects from the crash. So, according to what has been repaired, we will mostly look for possible shortcomings that are in direct causal connection with the incident, said lawyer Nikolay Dimitrov.
As early as December, the National Investigation determined that the leading version of the accident was inconsistent with the road conditions and stated that the road surface met the requirements.
The fatal section of the Struma highway now looks different. The recreation area is separated by a buffer, a new guardrail and markings are placed. However, road experts continue to see shortcomings such as the size of the bolts that secure the guardrail.
If it is established that the driver is the only one guilty, then the criminal proceedings will be terminated. The relatives of the victims will be entitled to claims under the driver’s insurance. The claims will be filed in Bulgaria, where the limits are European and are almost 20 times higher than those in northern Macedonia.
