While the relatives of the victims and by extension the whole of Turnhout is still in deep mourning after the deadly gas explosion on December 31, the disaster that cost four lives is already being laughed on social media. Relatives of Patrick Verschuren (60) – who died in the explosion together with his friends Roosje Baeten (70) – were sent a photo that is circulating on social media. The photo shows the destroyed apartment, with the large hole in the middle that was blown away by the explosion. In the photo, a shameful message was added in large letters: “On New Year’s Eve… the roof is going off!”.

Some people liked the photo or even added a funny smiley. “We are shocked and very angry”, respond Christel Hens and Marc Verschuren, sister-in-law and brother of victim Patrick Verschuren. “Our stomach turns a hundred times. We are distraught when we see this, and we run up the walls of anger.”
