Four of Heuvelman’s friends have the victim’s statements read aloud by their lawyer.
27-year-old Heuvelman from Waddinxveen was severely attacked on July 14, shortly after 2 am, along with friends during a clash on the boulevard in the seaside resort of El Arenal in Mallorca.
Kicked several times
Heuvelman ended up unconscious on the street in front of De Bierexpress café, after which he was said to have been kicked several times. He died four days later from his injuries. The fatal nightlife was preceded by a fight at the De Zaak café on the same avenue, with victims from a different group.
Heuvelman’s parents, who usually follow the sessions via a video link, have reacted with disappointment to the negative statements that the nine suspect Hilversum, aged 19 and 20, have made so far.
‘It’s not right’
None of the three main suspects and six co-defendants claim to have seen or touched Heuvelman.
“My clients have said from the beginning that they want to hear the truth,” says attorney Edwin Bosch, the attorney for the next of kin. “The problem from the start is that the suspects don’t honestly tell what they saw. They all say ‘we’re open to the facts’ and ‘oh, it’s so bad for the relatives.’ But when he gets tense and when he comes to Carlo, no one he has seen or done anything with Carlo. And this is simply not possible, because they themselves say that they are the only group that was there “.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office will issue requests for punishment on Monday.
