Relatively more infections among children and young people

In the week of March 2-9, 31,959 people received a positive test result, about the same number as the week before. A proportionate increase in the number of positive corona tests can be seen in people younger than 25 years. This is reported by the RIVM.

More than 360,000 people were tested, an increase of almost 14 percent compared to the week before. People in the age group 30 to 39 years were most often tested in the past week, followed by people aged 18 to 24 years. The percentage of positive tests decreased from 8.9 percent a week earlier to 8.1% in the past week.

More infections among children and young people

In people younger than 25 years, an increase can be seen in the number of corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants. The largest increase in the number of positive corona tests can be seen in the age group 18 to 24 years. In addition, an increase can be seen in the age groups of 13 to 17 years and 0 to 12 years. In the other age groups, the number of positive corona tests is lower than the week before.

The reproduction number stays around 1. Only if this number is completely below 1 will the number of coronavirus infections decrease.
