Rejuvenated Golf: Redesigned Front End, Cabin Overhaul and Power Unit Improvements

It will soon be four years since the premiere of the eighth generation Golf. So it’s time for a facelift, and we already know what important changes it will bring.

How is it possible? Volkswagen didn’t bother too much with the camouflage of the test prototypes, so the captures of spy photographers reveal practically everything essential. For example, the rejuvenated Golf will receive a redesigned front end with a new bumper inspired by the electric car ID.3 a slimmer headlights with new graphics.

The side line remains the same, here we can only expect new wheel designs, probably with aerodynamic covers to reduce drag and table emissions. At the back, we expect lamps with updated graphics, quite possibly the shapes of the bumpers will change here as well. The large logo of the automaker with the inscription Golf in the middle will remain.

Our vision of a rejuvenated Golf

Although the tested prototypes only have a minimum of camouflage, they still hide a little. And so our colleague and graphic designer Honza Lušovský set to work to render the rejuvenated Golf in full splendor. As he himself says, this time his work was much easier thanks to VW’s generosity. In addition to the changes described above, he tried to embellish the Golf with a new paint job.

However, the plethora of innovations does not end there, on the contrary. Volkswagen has prepared the most significant changes in the cabin, where the large screen of the multimedia system is the main attraction. The display appears to be taken from the ID.7 electric flagship and is therefore the same fifteen inches, the touch bar below it is retained. Conversely, the steering wheel in the spy photo has traditional physical buttons instead of the criticized touch surfaces. And the materials used, also a weak point of the current model, have to improve in a big way.

MBQ: Improvements for mild-hybrids and a question mark over the future of the turbodiesel

We will see what changes the range of power units will bring. The Golf will arrive on the latest version of the MQB Evo platform, which will bring minor improvements to the 1.0 eTSI and 1.5 eTSI mild-hybrids. For the powerful GTI and R variants, the petrol two-liter four-cylinder will remain, but the uncertain future is predicted for the turbodiesel. Rumor has it that Volkswagen would prefer to focus on plug-in plug-in hybrids. The most modern ones have a power of 200 kW and a range of up to 100 km per charge. We’ll see if the Golf gets them too.
