Only the Military Intelligence report was accepted
The annual reports of DANS and DAR were rejected by the parliament with the votes of PP/DB, GERB and DPS. Today, the National Assembly considered them in a closed session together with the report of the Military Intelligence. Only he was accepted by a large majority.
The managers have judged that the services during the year were ineffective, they did not detect important risks for national security. Thus, in practice, the heads of the State Agency “National Security” and the State Agency “Intelligence” received a vote of no confidence. Plamen Tonchev – DANS and Antoine Gechev – DAR were appointed by President Rumen Radev on the proposal of the caretaker government of Stefan Yanev. Tonchev came from GDBOP, and Gechev is a graduate of a military school.

Today’s vote shows for sure that their days at the head of the services are numbered, because there is agreement on the issue in the governing majority and the DPS. To that end, the non-coalition would need to amend the laws governing these offices and change the way they are appointed by removing the president’s powers. Now he appoints them by decree.
Sources of “24 Chasa” informed that the changes are already being prepared and the ruling majority has agreed, when they are ready, to try to include them in the legislative program of the parliament, although it is very busy until the end of September.
