Harlem residents reject plans to build a commercial truck depot in their neighborhood.
The developers had originally planned to build a complex west of 145th Street, which would have included hundreds of affordable housing units.
That plan stalled when Councilwoman Kristin Richardson Jordan objected.
The developers changed their plans and opted for a truck depot instead.
Residents and community leaders in the area came together yesterday because they are concerned about the possible impact the deposit could have on the environment and their health.
In a statement, developer Bruce Teitelbaum said he felt bad about the situation and that right now we should be celebrating the construction of more than 900 desperately needed homes in Harlem.
He added that he hopes Richardson’s radical and misguided opposition to a $700 million investment in affordable housing and jobs in Harlem can be overcome.
