Reinforcements to vaccinate the elderly against influenza and covid in Alpujarra

The Poniente Health District of Almería, belonging to the Andalusian Health Service (SAS), has developed a program of interventions in the Clinical Management Unit of the Alpujarra to streamline and facilitate the vaccination of over 65s against influenza and covid. Starting Monday, a team of healthcare professionals will travel to the region’s doctors’ offices to administer individual doses. People who are eligible to be vaccinated must make an appointment through the usual channels.

Healthcare professionals will assist users from nine to eleven in the morning in Fuente Victoria; from ten to eleven in the morning in Paterna; and from twelve to one at noon in Bayárcal.

The Poniente Health District insists the need to protect themselves from influenza and Covid-19, especially among the most vulnerable. Starting Monday, people aged 65 to 79 can now make an appointment to receive both vaccines. As a novelty, children between 6 and 59 months will receive the flu vaccine and will be able to request it through the usual channels. The district’s vaccine referral nurse, Vanesa Fernández, encourages the population to be protected. “The flu is in the air and prevention is very important. Get vaccinated for yourself and for others too, ”she said.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign against influenza and covid-19, which took place at the same time, Healthcare professionals in the Poniente District administered more than 5,000 doses compared to the first and about 4,200 compared to the second.
