reinforced controls this summer on the A63

About twenty CRS and a plane will be mobilized during the summer on the A63 to crack down on dangerous driving

The first weekend of July was just a warm-up, for vacationers as well as for the police. “With the ferry and the certificate which end today, it is this Saturday that the big departures will begin”, explains Lionel Vigouroux, captain of the Aquitaine motorway CRS, this Friday. And who says great departures means an increase in risky behavior: speeding, using the phone while driving (even to look at the GPS), failure to respect safety distances …

A device of twenty CRS was deployed this Friday on a portion of the A63, between the Bordeaux ring road and interchange 24 towards Saint-Jean-d’Illac. The objective is not to raise awareness but to repress dangerous behavior. “Pedagogy is not enough. Some people will change their behavior if it is explained to them, but for the most part, it is necessary to verbalize for it to become commonplace. “

Two teams of bikers patrol either side of the A63 to spot offenders, aided by an unmarked motorbike and car, and even a Border Police plane to sweep traffic from above.

“Films at the wheel”

This device is aimed at all vehicles, but special attention is paid to trucks, which by nature are more dangerous. “They generally respect the regulations, but we have more and more of them who watch their phones or movies while driving, or foreign trucks who pretend not to know the rules. “

After several years of participating in this type of operation, Captain Vigouroux noticed changes. “Some offenses are gradually disappearing: for example, we see a lot less overloaded vehicles than a few years ago. But the telephone is always more present.

The device will be deployed every weekend and sometimes during the week during the summer, in parallel with ordinary checks. Similar actions will be carried out throughout France as part of the national action plan to combat road insecurity.
