“Many people ask me whether it would be better to continue,” said Reindl of the German press agency before the start of the Germany Cup on November 11th in Krefeld.
Reindl failed in September with his candidacy for the chairmanship of the world association IIHF. In the meantime, he no longer rules out a renewed candidacy as DEB president. “There is no room for that at the moment. I don’t have time to think about it at the moment, ”said Reindl, who previously emphasized that he would definitely not compete again in the coming year. Currently, with the Germany Cup, the simultaneous Olympic qualification for women in Füssen and the Winter Games in Beijing in February, more important things are pending, said Reindl.
In fact, there have been quarrels in the DEB in the past few months. Some regional associations criticized Reindl’s payment as managing director of a DEB company that has organized and handled World Cup tournaments in its own country in the past.
National coach Söderholm is Reindl’s advocate
One of Reindl’s advocates is national coach Toni Söderholm, whose contract will expire after the upcoming World Cup in Finland in May. The DEB would like to extend the contract, but Söderholm is still hesitant and is apparently waiting to see how things continue at the top of the DEB. “In the association, the most important thing is that the sport remains number one,” said Söderholm, who apparently sees this in danger without former national player Reindl at the top.
With the men’s team, Söderholm plays in the traditional four-nation tournament of the DEB in Krefeld against Russia, Switzerland and Slovakia.
