Beyond presenting risks for the safety of the population and being at the origin of strong noise pollution, urban rodeos are a real marker of the savagery of society. A phenomenon to which Rennes is no exception.
Road safety in Rennes: the scourge of urban rodeos
If insecurity is therefore now also on the Rennes road network, in addition to people driving vehicles without a driving license, we must also mention the phenomenon of urban rodeos. Again, this “fashion” from the suburbs of major French cities has since been invited to Brittany. Rodeos that the prefecture of Ille-et-Vilaine, in a press release released on May 16, presents as being “the cause of serious disturbances to public order and risks to everyone’s safety”.
In Rennes, in recent days, several police operations have been carried out against these rodeos, especially in certain “sensitive” neighborhoods of the city. From there to make a link between the immigration of extra-European origin strongly represented in these zones and the propensity of certain inhabitants to indulge in this type of wild driving in defiance of the elementary road rules? Not to mention the decibel level…
Seized scooters and quads
In addition, other large-scale operations were also carried out in other towns in the department between May 13 and 15, 2022, in particular in Fougères, Bruz, Saint-Malo and Vitré. A total of 235 people were checked, with 35 reports issued. Ten scooter or quad-type vehicles were also seized by the police and two individuals were arrested.
Already in July 2021, the police had intervened in the Rennes district of Blosne, also deemed “sensitive” to carry out a dedicated operation against these rodeos. Searches of cellars and common parts of buildings: the harvest was successful since the police got their hands on a vehicle declared stolen. On the other hand, eight fines were issued, 20 vehicles checked and 40 two-wheelers. Not to mention narcotics and various stolen items.
Police officers who had also carried out similar operations in the districts of Maurepas, still in Rennes, as well as in Cleunay, Villejean and Prévalaye.
Note that since 2018 and the promulgation of a law on these urban rodeos, the latter are supposed to be punished by a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros.
Urban rodeos: very present in rap clips
Undoubtedly, these urban rodeos are indeed an additional marker of the savagery of Breton and French societies, a corollary of the spread of the “rabble culture” within the French youth.
Also, these rodeos appear in many rap clips. Among the most famous images are those of the Dalton gang, a collective of Lyon rappers who, in 2021, taunted every weekend the police at urban rodeos.
Ironically, we will also remember the images of urban rodeos in May 2021 under the windows of Lyon city hall, where the very lax mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet (EELV) sits. The multiculturalism that he loves so much is sometimes very noisy…
