The Reina Sofía University Hospital organizes the second commemorative conference of the World Breast Cancer Day. The Radiodiagnosis Unit has once again organized this meeting which resumes after the pandemic and with which it is intended create a discussion forum between patients and professionals in order to provide all information relating to the diagnosis and treatment of this pathology.
Radiologists, Oncologists, Radiotherapists, Surgeons, Nuclear Medicine Doctors, Pathologists, Nursing, among others, will participate in two round tables in which the main innovations that the hospital has incorporated in the last three years will be presented.
Some of these are the use of artificial intelligence to detect very small, almost undetectable lesions, which can indicate the onset of a tumor. Another of the great advances in recent years in the field of diagnosis has been the incorporation of mammography with contrast medium, a functional test that improves the detection of tumor lesions, since it offers more sensitive and precise results than conventional mammography.
In the field of treatment, the hospital has been improve treatment options, also incorporating those surgical conservation techniques and radiotherapy treatments during surgery, aimed at improving the quality of life of patients. Sentinel knot techniques or the use of magnetic seeds are some of the examples that will also be discussed during the meeting.
Before starting the round tables, the radiologist José Luis Raya will explain what the tumor committee consists of, a multidisciplinary body that allows the approach and study of each case in an integral way and taking into account all the particularities and affects of each patient .

On this second day, the organization wanted that, in addition to the explanation, the participants could know the workplace of the professionals who will be a reference during the entire process. For this reason a 8 videos in different points of the health complex where the same professionals explain the space from which they speak (an operating room or a PET room, for example) and the functions that take place in each of them.
Specifically, explanatory videos will be shown on the application of artificial intelligence, the role of pathological anatomy in the diagnosis of tumors, the importance of some tests in the diagnosis and monitoring of the disease such as PET, mammography with contrast medium or, to name another for example, the importance of participating in the screening program to obtain the best chances of survival and quality of life.
