Rehabilitated the famous “Lazenby streetlight” thanks to a fan

When George Lazenby was elected as Sean Connery’s replacement in 1968, he took some famous promotional photos in front of the UK Parliament, across the Thames across Westminster Bridge, next to a streetlight.

The author was the famous photographer Terry O’Neill:

As is logical, the streetlight it has become a “pilgrimage site” for all Bondian fans who visit London and take a photo there in tribute to Lazenby.

Even the silhouette of the photo has become the image of the George Lazenby official website:

Unfortunately, in 2021 the lamppost was vandalized:

Since then, the James Bond fan, Ian Jacklinvery active a twitterstarted a campaign to rehabilitate it.

He wrote to the town hall, to different departments, started a collection of signatures, asked for help and… when he was about to give up and after two years of bureaucratic struggle, he got them to respond positively!

Finally, this summer we already have the new Lazenby lamppost in London:
