President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reported this Thursday that after the visit she made yesterday to Acapulco to evaluate the situation due to the effects left by the rains left by the passage of the hurricane Johnleft instructions to provide support to the population and work on the rehabilitation of the port, and highlighted that the two priorities are to restore the drinking water supply systems and rehabilitate roads and bridges affected by the floods.

In her morning press conference at the National Palace, the president reported that today she will have a new meeting with officials to evaluate the situation, and added that with the support of Fonatur and the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, a meeting will be sought between her government. and businessmen for the reactivation of tourism activity.

He stressed that the security situation will also be addressed and recalled that during the government of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, National Guard barracks were built in the region and announced that a special program is being prepared for Acapulco that will be announced soon.

“We are going to meet again to make an evaluation. The emergency is being attended to and an evaluation is being made of the municipalities, towns and all affected neighborhoods,” stated Sheinbaum Pardo.

He added that in the port there are four pumping systems to supply drinking water to the population, but that none of them are working because they were flooded by the rains, so the population is being served with pipes from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena). ) and the National Water Commission, which were instructed to enable more vehicles to provide the service.

He said that his government will support Acapulco so that the pumping systems operate again and, in addition, to raise them to prevent them from flooding again due to future rains.

He added that there are bridges and roads that were greatly affected by the hurricane, so they will be rehabilitated, while the landslides and collapses are being attended to by Sedena.

“In the medium term, we will continue with the rehabilitation of the port, addressing the supply of drinking water, the sanitation systems and the desilting of rivers and banks to prevent damage from new rains,” he said.

Almost at the close of the conference, Sheinbaum Pardo stated that his government will allocate all necessary resources to the recovery of Guerrero. “Whatever it takes,” he stressed.

He clarified that he will attend to the situation in Acapulco and other affected municipalities, such as Copala, from Mexico City, while part of his cabinet and team will do so from the field in Guerrero. He then explained that the meeting in which he will evaluate the situation today will be virtual.
