Registration of hybrid cars in Jeju doubled

Last year, the number of registered eco-friendly vehicles in Jeju increased by nearly 40% compared to the previous year. The increase or decrease was greater for hybrid cars than for electric cars. Gasoline vehicles also increased, while diesel and LPG vehicles respectively decreased.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 26th, as of the end of last year, the cumulative number of registered cars in Jeju was 689,924, an increase of 4.8% (31,330) from the previous year, with 1.02 cars per population. The number of newly registered units is 92,439 units.

By type, passenger cars accounted for the most with 582,331 units, followed by trucks (87,854 units), vans (17,763 units), and special vehicles (1976 units).

By fuel, eco-friendly vehicles (electric, hybrid, hydrogen) increased by 37.9% (20,078 units) from the previous year and accounted for 9.4% of all vehicles in the province. The number of eco-friendly cars increased every year from 15,977 in 2017 to 24,529 in 2018, 30,436 in 2019, 38,869 in 2020, 52,975 in 2021, and 73,053 last year.

Among eco-friendly cars, electric vehicles increased by 28.9% (7,405 units) to 32,976 units from the previous year. Following Gyeonggi and Seoul, Jeju had the largest number of electric car registrations. The number of registered electric vehicles increased from 9,206 in 2017 to 15,549 in 2018, 18,178 in 2019, 21,285 in 2020, 25,571 in 2021, and 32,976 last year.

The number of hybrid cars also increased by 46.2% (12,665 units) from the previous year to 40,66 units. Hybrid cars were counted from 6,771 in 2017 to 8,980 in 2018, 12,257 in 2019, 17,584 in 2020, 27,401 in 2021, and 40,66 last year. The number of hydrogen cars increased from 3 in 2021 to 11 last year.

Gasoline vehicles also increased by 7.7% (22,616 units) to 314,963 units from the previous year. On the other hand, diesel vehicles were 245,624 units, down 2.9% (7210 units) from the previous year, and LPG vehicles were 55,356 units, a decrease of 7.1% (4211 units) from the previous year.
