Registration of candidates for the Presidency of Ecuador advances

Quito., The process of registering candidates for the Presidency of Ecuador, with a view to the 2025 elections, is advancing today in the Andean country while the first electoral polls come out.

This Saturday afternoon, the duo of the Citizen Revolution movement (RC), composed of Luisa González and Diego Borja as her running mate, registered before the National Electoral Council (CNE) in this capital.

González will seek the leadership of the Executive for the second time, after facing the runoff in 2023 against the current ruler, Daniel Noboa.

Noboa, who aspires to re-election in 2025, also registered his candidacy accompanied by María José Pinto, who was head of the Technical Secretariat of Ecuador Grows without Child Malnutrition.

Both joined the presidential race for the ruling National Democratic Action movement (ADN).

A study by the CID Gallup pollster revealed this Saturday that Noboa and González lead the voting intention for the next elections.

According to that company, Noboa leads the voting intention with 31 percent, followed by González with 26 percent and the candidate for the Sociedad Unida Más Acción (SUMA) party, Jan Topic with 15 percent.

Other movements and political parties have registered their proposals to Carondelet (seat of Government) before the CNE.

This is the case of the pairing composed of Francesco Tabacchi and Blanca Sacancela, who will run on behalf of the Creating Opportunities (CREO) movement, which some time ago brought Guillermo Lasso, Noboa’s predecessor, to the presidency.

Also, the former president of the National Court of Justice (CNJ), Iván Saquicela, registered as the presidential candidate of the Democracy Yes movement, accompanied by María Luisa Coello.

The process, which will last until this Tuesday, will be carried out only online, through the CNE computer system, whose access is exclusive to authorized organizations.

Once registered, the candidacies will go through a stage of verification of requirements and qualification by the electoral body and, after being qualified, they will be “non-waivable.”

On February 9, 2025, more than 13 million Ecuadorians are called to the polls to elect the president, vice president, 151 legislators, and five Andean parliamentarians.

Those who are elected will hold their positions during the period 2025-2029 and will replace those who took office exceptionally in 2023, after then-president Lasso decreed cross-death.
