Governor Andrew Cuomo encouraged New Yorkers without health coverage to enroll in the state program beginning November 1 NY State of Health, The Official Marketplace for New York Health Plans.
New Yorkers who are enrolled in a qualified health plan through the state must renew their coverage, while those without health insurance can enroll as of this Sunday.
Due to the current COVID-19 public health emergency, New Yorkers who are already enrolled in Medicaid, Child Health Plus, or the Essential Plan will automatically retain continuous coverage and do not need to renew at this time.
Cuomo detailed that almost all affiliates in the market will not see any cost increases in 2021.
“New York has done more than any other state to expand access to health care and make high-quality insurance available to everyone,” Cuomo said in a statement. Registration will be open until January 31.
The president encouraged New Yorkers enrolled in a qualified health plan through the NYSOH to renew their coverage. Anyone without health insurance should also visit the website and take this opportunity to enroll.
NY State of Health, in conjunction with the State Department of Financial Services and New York State insurers, launched a special enrollment period in February 2020 and extended it through the end of the year to ensure that people do not avoid requesting the tests of COVID-19 or medical care due to lack of health insurance coverage.
As part of the state budget approved for fiscal year 2020, New York State strengthened the critical consumer protections of the Affordable Care Act and prohibits exclusions for pre-existing conditions and guarantees the ability to support children in the plans of his parents until the age of 26.
Current members, including those who enrolled in a qualified health plan through a special enrollment period, will begin receiving their 2021 renewal notices and can begin the process beginning this November 16.
The notices include information about premiums, tax credits, and how to select a plan, if applicable. Consumers renewing coverage are encouraged to update their account with any changes in income, address, or family size before enrollment begins.
